IPM Technician/Pesticide Applicator
What we are looking for
A full-time IPM Technician/Pesticide Applicator.
Responsibilities
Chemical application:
- Read labels and understand purpose of various products used
- Possess and maintain a solid understanding of compatible mixtures
- Ensure we are using only compatible mixtures
- Stay current with EPA or Department of Agriculture updates in San Diego
- Stay up-to-date with current/latest company policies and procedures
- Proficiently apply the following types of chemicals, as needed:
- Pre-emergent/bare ground and planted areas
- Post-emergent/bare ground and planted areas
- Insect/disease control
- Growth regulator
- Weed control (pre and post) in turf
- Rodenticide
- Foliar/root injection fertilization and trunk injection
- Ensure tank labeling is always accurate; update labeling as mixes are changed
- Survey areas to determine:
- Chemical rate requested is within standards for work to be performed
- General job conditions such as the presence of obstacles, water hazards, people in proximity to the area, and/or any other adverse conditions that should be investigated before any chemicals are dispensed
- Job area boundaries and volume of mixes so that only enough chemicals are used to complete the assigned job
- Monitor equipment for any lead, bubble in hose, contaminants on the bed of trucks, or any other deficiency that may cause injury to the operator or public, or cause damage to clients or neighboring properties
Qualifications
- Knowledgeable of and proficient in application techniques for the following types of chemicals:
- Pre-emergent/bare ground and planted areas
- Post-emergent/bare ground and planted areas
- Insect/disease control
- Growth regulator
- Weed control (pre and post) in turf
- Rodenticide
- Foliar/root injection fertilization and trunk injection
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Must pass company driving test
- Manage onsite fuel tanks, handle and schedule fuel delivery and tracking
- Must be able to obtain and maintain first aid certification
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Pesticide Applicator Certification
- Must be able to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions
- Must be able to perform moderately strenuous tasks while wearing a respirator
- Must be competent at inspecting plant and trees, identifying problems such as deficiencies, and environmentally treating and preventing the many problems that trees and shrubs may face
- A degree in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, Plant Science, Plant Pathology or Landscape Management preferred

Salary
- $45,750 and up per year (Depending upon qualifications and proven experience)
