About the client
The world-famous San Diego Zoo houses over 3,700 animals of more than 650 species and subspecies. It was a pioneer in the development of open-air, cageless exhibits that recreate natural animal habitats, and is one of a handful of zoos in the world that successfully breeds and houses the giant panda. But beyond its animals, the San Diego Zoo is also greatly focused on horticulture and plant conservation. It is a world-class botanical garden with around 700,000 plants, including nine accredited plant collections ranging from fiery-flowered coral trees (Erythrina) and dinosaur-era cycads, to exotic orchids, towering figs, acacias and bamboos. The San Diego Zoo is one of the nation’s most-visited zoos, welcoming more than 3 million visitors each year.
How Atlas delivers
For over 15 years, we have been the Zoo’s preferred vendor, especially in the area of large tree removals with cranes. Our work with the zoo requires careful choreography and planning as we are often working over very delicate exhibits, starting at first daylight and around show schedules to ensure zero interruption to visitors.
